Repurposed sideboard cabinet into kitchen island. So this is how to build a farmhouse kitchen island. Since we moved into this house in july of 2009 i have really wanted a kitchen island, but the ones i found were either ridiculously expensive, too small for our space, or really ugly tablesonwheels type contraptions.

This dream of hav­ing a kitchen island start­ed with a dress­er we found at a local resale shop. I sanded and painted and made a top from an old pallet. By using the original cabinet as the focal point and the second cabinet facing the sink, the island would be approx.

Desk repurposed to kitchen island. The top has all sorts of dents, dings, and other marks that show it’s age. And for sure a dishwasher….

But The Rest Of It?


In addition to building wooden furniture and other items, i also like to repurpose old items. Spindle headboard bench from confessions of a serial diyer. The first one is a kitchen island by adding reclaimed wood and some other stash goodies.
